Dear Micah (2 months)

Your little personality is really starting to show. You are always so alert and engaged in everything around you. You get distracted so easily when you are nursing. Anytime you hear something going on, you stop eating and look around to see what you are missing. You are finally starting to smile more and will even let out a little giggle here and there. But for the most part, you are one serious little guy. We have our ways to make you smile though! You love it when we stick our tongues out at you and making farting noises. You also love looking in the mirror, especially when we make faces at you. You are mastering the art of tummy time. You learned how to push up on your elbows and lift your head up really high. This month, you went to the pool for the first time. We figured you would love splashing in the water since you love bath time so much. We were wrong; you were not impressed at all. You love playing in the bath so much. You kick and squeal and hit the water with your hands. Even when you are cranky and tired, a bath always makes you happy again. You love going to the climbing gym with Mommy and Daddy. You love just lying on the floor and watching us climb. You are always so well behaved when you are out and about. You must get worn out after spending all day at the climbing gym because those are the nights you sleep the best! You are sleeping so much better this month! You started to sleep through the night (well, 5-6 hour stretches) when you were around 11 weeks old. You are such a big boy about putting yourself to sleep most of the time. You just lay in your crib and talk to yourself until you fall asleep. We love hearing your voice and everything you have to say. You have so much to tell us! You are usually happiest when you first wake up from a nap. After opening your sleepy eyes, you always greet us with a big toothless grin. You favorite place in the whole house is your changing table. You kick your little legs and flap your arms so much when you lay on it. We are not sure where you are trying to go! Just before your 3 month birthday, we noticed a little white speck on your gums. We think your first tooth is on its way here! 

The Monkey Chair

A large mysterious package was delivered to our front porch yesterday afternoon. The return address revealed its sender - Christian's Dad and Stepmom, Patty. Once Christian returned home from school, we opened it together. Contained inside were numerous pieces of wood that were beautifully stained in a reddish, cedar color and carefully packed between pieces of foam. It didn't take long for us to realize that they had made each and every piece by hand. Amazing. Next, we find a stack of papers containing intricate instructions on the assembly of this masterpiece, complete with photographs of each and every step. Each piece of wood was labeled and prepped to perfection so that even the most novice (like myself) can put it together with ease. "The Monkey Chair" is an absolutely brilliant piece of art. We are still in awe of how much time, love, and thought Dad and Patty put into this. Micah is going to grow up to love it as well...and perhaps will even pass it down to his children.
